18 May Delicious Rioja Blanco Summer Wine
New to the Cafe’s wine menu is a Rioja Blanco from the Spanish Haro region’s Martinez Lacuesta winery. This pleasant, easy to drink white wine is made 100% from Viura grape, which is the main grape of white Rioja. The pale-colored, unoaked wine barrel fermented for three months.
Wine sommeliers describe “the nose of this Rioja Blanco as very fragrant with lovely tropical, melon, and floral aromas with a touch of oak. In the mouth the flavors cross the palate refreshingly with a balance of ripe green apple fruit, juicy acidity, and a hint of vanilla and honey. It is a delicious easy to drink wine to enjoy with friends as an apertif or paired with fish, chicken, shrimp or paella.”
Haro is a town and municipality in the northwest of La Rioja province in northern Spain. It is known for its fine wines and every year the Haro Wine Festival is held. Martinez Lacuesta is one of the few wineries that continues to decant its wine manually, and has a stock of 7,800 barrels. This is a wonderful winery to visit, it’s family run using traditional methods to produce great wines.
